Frequently Asked Questions

Input and controls

How do I switch between English and Korean?

Use the language button at the bottom of the title screen. The English version uses English words and sentences, and the Korean version uses Korean. Each language has its own ranking.

My typing does not register.

Your keyboard is probably set to another language or input method. Switch it to English. The game shows a warning when it sees letters from the wrong script. If you clicked outside the game, click the game screen once to bring focus back.

I typed it right, but it says typo.

After a typo, input is ignored for 0.2 seconds so that keys pressed out of momentum do not pile up. Letters typed during that moment are discarded. Also check for doubled letters, which are easy to miss.

Space fires my special during a boss fight.

In boss fights Space is a special only while the input is empty. While you are typing a sentence it works as a normal space.

Why can't I paste?

To keep the ranking fair, pasting and input from automation tools are ignored. Please type everything yourself.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. Type with the on-screen keyboard and use the buttons under the game for special and pause. Portrait mode works best. Phone keyboards are slower than physical ones, so later stages can be tough.

How do I turn off sound?

Press F2. Your choice is remembered in your browser.

Score and ranking

How is the score calculated?

Cleared stage number x 1,000, plus 5,000 per boss, plus keystrokes x 10 for every monster defeated, multiplied by your combo multiplier (up to x2.0). See How to play for details.

When do rankings reset?

The daily ranking resets at midnight Korea time (UTC+9) and the weekly ranking on Monday at midnight Korea time. The all-time ranking never resets. Each character shows only its best score for the period. English and Korean scores are ranked separately.

My run did not appear on the ranking.

Very short runs, and runs that could not get a server check at the start because of a lost connection, are not ranked. The server also recalculates the score from the run record and rejects it if it does not match. Guests must enter a name on the game over screen.

Can I use any name as a guest?

Names already used by a signed-in character cannot be used as guest names, and offensive names are blocked.

I found a suspicious record.

Send the name and rank to the email below. After checking, we hide cheating records from the ranking.

Accounts and characters

Do I have to sign in?

No. Guests can play every stage. Signing in lets you choose a class and grow your character with gold and experience after each run.

How many characters can I have?

One per class, three in total. Level, gold and gear are saved separately for each character, and you can switch characters on the title screen. Characters are shared between the English and Korean versions.

How do I delete my account?

Email us from, or mentioning, the Google account you sign in with. Your characters, progress and ranking records will be deleted together.

Ads

Are there ads during play?

No. Ads only appear on the game over screen, never during battle, so they never get in the way of your typing. See the privacy policy for how ads and cookies work.

Tips to improve your typing

  1. Keep your fingers on the home row. Rest your index fingers on F and J. Those keys have small bumps so you can find them without looking.
  2. Do not look at the keyboard. It feels slow at first, but typing by touch is the fastest way in the end.
  3. Accuracy before speed. In Typing Dungeon a typo breaks your combo and briefly blocks input. Until your accuracy is above 95%, slowing down earns more points.
  4. Practice tricky letters. Doubled letters, words like "rhythm" and the reach to Q, Z and P cause most mistakes. Type them deliberately when they appear.
  5. Read whole words. With practice you stop spelling letter by letter and your fingers follow the whole word. Read boss sentences a few words at a time.
  6. Practice little and often. Ten to fifteen minutes a day beats hours at once. Typing Dungeon runs are short, so they fit into small breaks.

Note the typing speed (keys per minute) on the game over screen to watch your progress.
